What it does

Instrument plays recordings of real instruments from the library: a grand piano, an upright, an electric piano, classical, acoustic and electric guitars, electric and upright bass, an acoustic kit and a TR-808. Every note comes from the nearest recorded one, the velocity picks a recorded layer (soft and loud really sound different), and repeated notes alternate round-robin takes. Sounds load as they are needed: the middle layer first, the rest when called for. Knobs: Tone softens the sound, Attack and Release shape the envelope (release 0 keeps the instrument’s own), Level.

Try this

Keyboard Note → Instrument Note: play the piano from on-screen keys or MIDI.
Progression → Instrument with an electric guitar → Delay → Reverb: an instant accompaniment.
Drum kits follow the General MIDI map: 36 is the kick, 38 the snare, 42 the closed hat.
