About this earthquake
The strongest earthquake of the 21st century after Tōhoku 2011 and one of the most powerful ever recorded. It struck the same subduction zone as the 1952 catastrophe. Tsunami waves swept across the entire Pacific, but timely evacuations prevented any fatalities.
