About this earthquake
The third in the series of catastrophic earthquakes that struck the Verny (Almaty) region at the turn of the century, and the most destructive of them for the city. Surface ruptures about 200 km long formed in the Trans-Ili and Kungey Alatau mountains, and giant landslides dammed mountain valleys.
