From Ukrainian Дніпродзержи́нськ (Dniprodzeržýnsʹk), from Дніпро́ (Dnipró, “Dnipro River”) + Дзержи́нський (Dzeržýnsʹkyj), after Soviet revolutionary Felix Dzerzhinsky. The city was renamed in 2016 as part of general decommunization of placenames. Doublet of Dneprodzerzhinsk, from Russian Дне́продзержи́нск (Dnéprodzeržínsk).
