Etymology

From Scottish Gaelic Ilidh, of uncertain derivation, but Isaac (2005) connects this with a Proto-Celtic root meaning "cry" (cf. Old Irish ilach (“victorious howl”)) and Coates (2006) argued for Proto-Semitic *ʔil- (“god”).
