Etymology
Derived from Malay Tuas, from tuas (literally “lever; to raise by leverage, to haul up”), a type of fishing method traditionally used by coastal Malay fishermen where they used coconut fronds and branches to create shade that attracted fish. The net, suspended beneath the fronds, was hauled up to catch the fish.
