Further from Latin terebrātus (“boring, drilling”) + Latin -ula (diminutive suffix), from terebrō (“to bore, to drill”), terebra (“borer, drill, gimlet”), and terō (“to rub, to wear upon”). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *terh₁- (“to rub, to turn, to pierce, to drill”).
