Etymology

Probably borrowed from Semai Temiir, Temèèr (“Temiar”), or a cognate such as Lanoh Təmyɛl (“Temiar”), itself probably from a Malayo-Polynesian term cognate to Javanese tambér, Madurese tambir and Sundanese tambir (all "to stick to the edge"); possibly compare Austroasiatic terms such as Bulo Stieng bər (“rim”), Laven bi̤ər (“rim”), Lawi tapiər (“rim”) (Proto-Bahnaric *ɓər), Nyah Kur [script needed] (bíər, “edge of soft-shelled turtle carapace”), and Khasi tmier (“edge”).
