2. In particular, the adaptation of something (mainly America or its politics) to the norms and practices of the American South.
3. The adaptation of a society to the developments, technologies and crops of southern Asia, such as sugar, cotton, and Arabic numerals. (An analogue of westernization, suggested by historian Lynda Shaffer.)
