Etymology

Anglicization of Lushootseed sduhubš, the autonym of the Snohomish people, a proper noun derived from Lushootseed stubš (“man”). The exact meaning of the indigenous autonym is debated even among the Snohomish today, but the usual interpretation is that of "man" in the plural, i.e. "men" or "many men".
