Meanings

1. A coastal town in extreme southern Albania that is an important tourist attraction due to its coastal access and Mediterranean climate, located at the southern end of the Albanian Riviera on a slope by a gulf of the Ionian Sea 14 km east of the island of Corfu's northern end; it is the seat of its eponymous municipality and municipal unit.

Etymology

Borrowed from Albanian Sarandë, from Greek Άγιοι Σαράντα (Ágioi Saránta, “forty saints”), which refers to the ruined Forty Saints Monastery (named after the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste) which overlooked the town.
