Saidpur

Etymology

From Bengali সৈয়দপুর (śōiẏdopur), Punjabi ਸੈਦਪੁਰ (saidpur), Hindi सैदपुर (saidpur) and Urdu سیدپور (saidpūr). All are ultimately bilingual compounds of Arabic سَيِّد (sayyid, “master”, specifically referring to the descendants of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad) + Sanskrit पुर (pura, “city”), named in honor of various Sayyids who settled or preached there.
