Etymology

Earlier rabock, reebok, rhebuck, rheeboc, raybuck, rehboc, borrowed from Afrikaans reebok (“rhebok”), ribbok (“rhebok”), from Dutch reebok (“roebuck”), compound of ree + bok, from Middle Dutch reeboc.
