Etymology

From Maltese Puglisevich, from Serbo-Croatian Puljizević. Anglicised spelling of Puljizević. The earliest reference to this surname in Malta is in a notarised document from 1814 testified by Andrea Puglisevich, then a resident of Valletta but originating from the Dubrovnik region. The coat of arms shows two roosters, a sun, and a Cyrillic acronym, possibly relating to IHS.
