Etymology

From prenunciate (“announce before”, whence prenunciation) + -ive, with influence from Latin praenuntiātīvus, a misreading in Pliny of praenuntiōs, praenuntius (“foreboding”) and by analogy with praenuntiō (“announce beforehand; foretell”) + -īvus.
