Etymology

From Tagalog Pasig, from pasig (“sandy riverbank”). Common folk etymologies include claims of Sanskrit origin, or a corruption of Tagalog mabagsik by Chinese. No Sanskrit words sounding similar to Pasig exist, however. Cognate with Paser (“a regency in Indonesia”).
