From Ancient Greek πανήγυρις (panḗguris), from παν- (pan-, “all”) + ἄγυρις (águris), Aeolic form of ᾰ̓γορᾱ́ (ăgorā́, “assembly”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ger- (“to assemble, gather together”). See panegyric.
