Etymology

From Ancient Greek παιανισμός (paianismós, “chanting of the paean”), from παιάν (paián, “paean, song of triumph”) + -ισμός (-ismós, “-ism”). Also written παιωνισμός (paiōnismós) with the Attic form παιών (paiṓn).
