Named for the place in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, where it was first produced. The placename means "place of two streams" in Unami: from nisha (“two”) + a root meaning "stream" (compare tànkhane (“narrow stream”), wëlàhëne (“nice stream”) + the locative suffix -k.
