  1. The practice of bee-keeping or the preparation of honey. The word became uncommon after the introduction of refined sugar and the subsequent decline in popularity of beekeeping. Derived from the Greek word for honey. Possibly coined by Thomas Granger circa 1620. Uncountable, no known plural.
