Etymology

Borrowed from Manchu ᠮᠠᠨᠵᡠ (manju), most likely from a native Proto-Tungusic word used to mean "a large river, Amur River" which is reconstructed as *Maŋgu by Benzing and *Mamgo by Hölzl. Alternatively might be from Sanskrit मञ्जुश्री (mañjuśrī, “Manjushri”).
