Etymology

Calque of Mandarin 夏家店下層文化 /夏家店下层文化 (Xiàjiādiàn xiàcéng wénhuà), from 夏家店 (Xiàjiādiàn, “Xiajiadian”) + 下層 /下层 (xiàcéng, “lower strata”) + 文化 (wénhuà, “culture”), with Xiajiadian being the location of the type site, which was discovered at a lower level than that of the Upper Xiajiadian culture. By surface analysis, lower + Xiajiadian + culture.
