  1. The primary Arabic lot (or 'part') still in use. It is defined as λ_H ± (λ_☾ − λ_☉) – that is, a longitudinal distance along the horizon from the ascendant, H, that is equal to the longitudinal separation of the Sun and Moon. For some, λ_H + (λ_☾ − λ_☉) is the Lot of Fortune and λ_H − (λ_☾ − λ_☉) the Lot of Spirit; more often, λ_H + (λ_☾ − λ_☉) is the Lot of Fortune during the day and λ_H − (λ_☾ − λ_☉) the Lot of Fortune at night.
