Etymology

From Punjabi لَہَنْدا / ਲਹਿੰਦਾ (lahindā, “west, western”), from Punjabi لَہَݨا / ਲਹਿਣਾ (lahiṇā, “to come down”), coming from the sense that the sun sets in the West. Compare Sindhi لهڻ (lahaṇu, “to obtain, get down, go down”).
