Etymology

Learned borrowing from Hittite 𒆳𒌷𒆠𒄑𒍪𒉿𒀜𒈾 (KURᵁᴿᵁki-iz-zu-wa-at-na /Kizzuwatna/) possibly from [script needed] (kēz, “from here, on this side”) + 𒌓𒉈𒂊 (utnē, “land”), translating to the equivalent of "the land on this (to the) side". Compare Neo-Assyrian 𒌷𒆠𒋢𒀜𒉌 (ᵁᴿᵁki-su-at-ni /Kisuatni/), Egyptian q-A-DA-wA-d:n-xAst (qꜣḏꜣwꜣdn) and qd-d:y-xAst (qdy), and Ancient Greek Καταονία (Kataonía).
