From Byzantine Greek ὡρολόγιον (hōrológion, “book of hours”), from Ancient Greek ὥρα (hṓra, “time period, hour”) + λόγιον (lógion, “record; measuring device”), from λόγος (lógos) + -ιον (-ion). Doublet of horologe and horologium. See menologion.
