Etymology

From hippocamp (from Ancient Greek ἱππόκαμπος (hippókampos)), a creature from Greek mythology with the upper body of a horse and the tail of a fish. Officially named in February 2019. The moon was discovered in 2013 by viewing archival images produced by the Hubble Space Telescope dating back to 2004.
