Etymology

Coined by SiIvaGunner in 2016 (then known as "GiIvaSunner"), a YouTube channel which produces mashed up video game music, in reference to the video game music rips they were inauthentically presented as. It emerged from a repeated tongue-in-cheek response to commenters who pointed out that the music was edited or otherwise dislikeable, typically in the form of "I only upload high quality video game rips". The word is primarily associated with the channel, but can refer to such music produced by others.
