From New Latin hemiplegia, from Ancient Greek ἡμιπλήξ (hēmiplḗx), also ἡμιπληγής (hēmiplēgḗs, “stricken on one side”), from ἡμι- (hēmi-, “half”) + πλήσσω (plḗssō, “to strike”). By surface analysis, hemi- + -plegia.
