Etymology

Borrowed from West Circassian хьатикъуай (ḥatiqʷaj). From the name of Price Hatuqo (Хьатикъо (Ḥatiqʷo)), founder of the Hatuqay Principality; historical political entity in Circassia, from which the tribe derives its name. A prominent folk etymology connects the name to the Hatti and Hittite civilizations.
