  1. A giant and king of the sea, personifying the power thereof. He is the son of Fornjótr, and the brother of Logi and Kári. He has nine daughters — the billow maidens — by his wife, Rán, namely: Bára, Blóðughadda, Bylgja, Dúfa, Hefring, Himinglæva, Hrönn, Kólga, and Unnr.
