Coined by Consumer Aesthetics Research Institute member Sofi Lee in 2017. From Frutiger (“a sans-serif typeface”), from German Frutiger, the surname of its designer in turn meaning “of Frutigen”, and (Windows) Aero (“a design language”), a backronym for Authentic, Energetic, Reflective, and Open.
