Word forms

chemosis chemoses

Etymology

From international scientific vocabulary, from New Latin, from Ancient Greek χυμός (khumós, “juice, fluid, humor”), with reference to edema. By surface analysis, chemo- + -osis, although this is in the nature of a false friend, as the word is not specific to exogenous chemical–induced cases of conjunctival irritation.
