Chédiak-Higashi syndrome

1. A rare autosomal recessive disorder that arises from a defect in lysosomes, leading to a decrease in phagocytosis, causing recurrent pyogenic infections, partial albinism and peripheral neuropathy.

Etymology

Named after Cuban physician and serologist Alejandro Moisés Chédiak (1903–1993) and named after Japanese pediatrician Otokata Higashi (1883–1981).
