First attested 1907, borrowed from French cénestopathie, coined by Ernest Dupré and Paul Camus, from Ancient Greek κοινός (koinós, “common”) + αἴσθησις (aísthēsis, “perception from the senses”) + πάθος (páthos, “suffering, misery, condition”).
