Etymology

Learned borrowing from Balinese ᬘᬾᬦ᭄ᬤᭀᬮ᭄ (céndol, “rice or sago syrup”) or Javanese ꦕꦺꦤ꧀ꦝꦺꦴꦭ꧀ (cèndhol, “protuberant”), from Old Javanese ceṇḍol. First attested in the Tantri Demung found at Sidemen Karangasem district in Bali, 1728 AD, as ᬘᬾᬦ᭄ᬤᭀᬮ᭄ (céndol).
