Sometimes confused with Bonfield, Benfield, but unrelated. * Also as an English surname, from several places in England with the name Bampfylde, first recognised in the parish of Weston Bampfylde near Castle Cary, in the county of Somerset. The name is composed of Old English bean + feld (“field”).
