From Coptic ⲁⲣⲧⲁⲃ (artab), via Old Persian from Akkadian 𒅈𒁕𒁉 (/⁠ardabu⁠/, “capacity measure of about 56 litres”). Also found in Ancient Greek ἀρτάβη (artábē).
