From French archéologue, from post-classical Latin archaiologus or its etymon Byzantine Greek ἀρχαιολόγος (arkhaiológos), from Ancient Greek ἀρχαιο- (arkhaio-) + -λογος (-logos). Equivalent to archaeo- + -logue.
