Derived from Classical Persian کِتَابِ اَقْدَس (kitāb-i aqdas, literally “the holiest book”), from Arabic كِتاب (kitāb, “book”) + أَقْدَس (ʔaqdas, “holiest, exceedingly holy”), the latter word being elative of قِدِّيس (qiddīs) or قُدُّوس (quddūs), both “holy”.
