Etymology

Borrowed from taxonomic name Aglajidae, from the type genus Aglaja. The genus name is borrowed from Ancient Greek Ἀγλαΐα (Aglaḯa) and ἀγλαΐα (aglaḯa, “splendor, beauty”). Further from Ancient Greek ἀγλαός (aglaós, “splendid, shining”) and an earlier unattested *ἀγλαϝός (*aglawós).
