From Latin acrōtērium, from Ancient Greek ἀκρωτήριον (akrōtḗrion); related to ἄκρος (ákros, “highest, at the extremity”). By surface analysis, acro- + Latin -tērium. Fully Latinized form. Doublet of acroter.
